Essex County OPP officers say they arrested two impaired drivers involved in separate crashes over the weekend.
Police in Tecumseh received a report of a single-vehicle crash in front of a residence in the 6700 block of Holden Road on Sunday at about 2:20 a.m.
A grey Lexus had been travelling southbound on Holden Road and left the roadway and struck a concrete culvert. Police say the driver was not injured, but exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene.
Nectarios Kouvalis, 40, of Amherstburg, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and exceed 80 milligrams blood alcohol content.
A man with the same name worked on the campaigns of former Toronto Mayor Rob Ford and current Toronto Mayor John Tory.
CTV News has not been able to independently confirm it's the same man.
Kouvalis apologized on Twitter on Monday, saying he’s been struggling with alcohol addiction since 2011.
“I'm very sorry to all those that I let down,” he said on Twitter. “I ask for all of your help and advice in dealing with this difficult addiction.”
He will appear in a Windsor court on May 4 to answer to the charges.
Also on Sunday morning, at about 3:35 a.m., OPP officers in Lakeshore received a call regarding a red Ford which had run a stop sign and struck a residence on Eleventh Street in Belle River.
Police say the male driver exhibited signs of impairment and was arrested.
Bradley Lebert, 37, of Lakeshore was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and exceed 80 milligrams blood alcohol content.
He will appear in a Windsor court on May 4 to answer to the charges.
