Windsor police have charged two Brampton men after a security guard at downtown Windsor's Boom Boom Room was shot early Sunday.

Devonte Pierce, 20, a former Catholic Central High School student, remains in hospital in serious condition. He was reportedly shot in the stomach.

Pierce was working at the time of the shooting.

Kevin Nyandu, 20, of Brampton is charged with attempted murder, careless use of a firearm and unlawful possession of marijuana.

Shadrack Amankwa, 24, also of Brampton, is charged with accessory to attempted murder, possession of a firearm while prohibited and careless storage of a firearm.

Police were called to the club aound 2:40 a.m.

Officers in the area heard the gunshot and observed two males running across Victoria Avenue westbound from behind the Victoria Park Place apartments.

The males continued to run to the area of Victoria Avenue and Park Street West, but soon after officers apprehended the men and recovered a handgun.

People who know Pierce, who was a basketball star at Catholic Central, are shocked.

"You spend so much time together, you become their pseudo-father," says basketball coach Peter Cusumano.

He received a frantic call about 4 a.m. Sunday about Pierce and quickly rushed to the hospital.

"When I got to the hospital, 25 former CCHS students were in the waiting room," says Cusumano.

"Everybody was heart broken. We were all worried of course, for him....
