The Town of Tecumseh is making it easier for residents to get hitched.

In January, the town will start offering marriage licensing services.

Council approved the launch of marriage services at the Nov. 28, 2017, Policies and Priorities Committee meeting.

The service will be available at the town office during regular office hours.

“Residents have been asking for this service and now we have the resources in place to meet this demand,” says Laura Moy, director of corporate services & clerk.

Previously, residents would have to travel outside the municipality to get a licence.

A marriage licence is required to be legally married in Ontario.

Eligible couples planning on getting married can download and complete the application on the Town’s website or go to the Town Hall office to obtain an application.

Both applicants must provide two pieces of identification, one being photo identification, to process the application.

The fee for the licence is $130.00 and valid for three months from the date of issue.

For residents’ convenience, civil wedding ceremonies will also be available in the Spring of 2018.

“All officials who perform weddings are licensed by the Province and will be ready to perform services in March”” says the Director Corporate Services & Clerk. This service will be on a first-come first-serve basis and will be based on availability. Prices for civil wedding ceremonies range from $250 to $350 depending on date and times.
