The future of several area schools will be the topic of discussion Tuesday night, as the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board holds an accommodation review committee meeting.
In Tecumseh, administration is recommending the closure of St. Gregory Catholic Elementary School as of June 30, with students being transferred to St. Pius X in September. At the same time, the board is proposing St. Peter Catholic Elementary remain open into the foreseeable future.
In east Windsor, administration wants to expand the boundary for St. John Vianney to include St. Maria Goretti students east of Lauzon Road and have St. Rose expanded their boundaries to include students on the west side. St. Maria students will have a one-time opportunity to choose which of the two schools they prefer to attend.
Both St. Rose and St. Jules will transition to JK to Grade 6 schools – Grade 7 to 8 students will then attend the new Corpus Christi Middle School at the F.J. Brannan site. However, once construction of a new school at the current St. Bernard school is complete, St. Jules will close and students will transition to that location.
In central Windsor, administration is asking the board to continue to pursue capital funding from the province to build a new Catholic Central High School at the former Windsor Arena location or at an alternative site.
The board is also being asked to close Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary School if enrollment continues on its current path. At which point students would be transitioned to St. Angela school.
Parents will have their chance to sway the board at Tuesday meeting starting at 7 p.m. at Holy Names High School.
