Tecumseh Fire crews responded to a call at the Bonduelle Food Processing plant at Lacasse Boulevard and Tecumseh Road East about 2:00 Friday morning.

Fire Chief Doug Pitre says at that point there was heavy smoke, but no flames. “We entered the building the visibility was zero. We pulled the crew out for safety reasons.”

It was shortly after Pitre says fire fighters saw flames shooting through the roof 30 to 40 feet high.

It was first believed the fire might have been electrical.

Pitre now suspects pallets and packing is now what is burning.

He doesn’t believe there’s anything toxic being released in the smoke, but advises nearby residents to keep their windows closed.

Crews from Windsor and Lakeshore are also on scene.
