Suspected gunman arrested in east Windsor neighbourhood
Windsor police say a suspected gunman has been arrested in the Pillette Village area.
Just before announceing his arrest Wednesday morning, police said the suspect was contained in the 900 block of Pillette Road.
Police say Richard Wallace, 29, from Windsor is now in custody.
At about 12:30 a.m. Wednesday, police were dispatched to a shots fired call in the 2900 block of Grandview Blvd.
Information was received that gun shots were heard and a vehicle heard leaving the area.
The complainant called police and said that she observed a bullet hole in her neighbours’ residence.
Officers arrived and spoke to the complainant and observed that the damage which appeared to be caused by a shotgun. The complainant advised that the suspect made further threats toward a family member.
“They discovered spent shotgun shells in the roadway and damaged overhead lights, so it appears maybe he was shooting out some lights as he was walking down the street,” Const. Andrew Drouillard told CTV News Channel.
Officers received information that the suspect may be in the area of Pillette and Wyandotte Street East.
While in the area officers heard shots fired and the suspect vehicle leaving the area.
At about 2:30 a.m., officers performed a high risk vehicle stop on the stolen vehicle and placed two people under arrest and learned that one suspect was still outstanding.
Information was received that the suspect was walking in the area of Arthur Road and Ontario, carrying a long gun. Officers located spent shotgun shells in the roadway and damaged overhead lights.
Before his arrest, police were asking residents to stay inside and for citizens to avoid the area of Pillette from Wyandotte to South National and Jos Janisse to Raymo.
The Greater Essex County District School Board says Riverside area schools are open after all clear from Windsor Police. There will be student transportation to area this afternoon.
The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board says Brennan and Corpus Christi remain closed for the day.
