When the Seattle Seahawks won the Super Bowl over the Denver Broncos, it was a dream come true for LaSalle’s Luke Willson.
The local hero returned Saturday to his hometown, which held a celebration.
"It's pretty unreal, you have camera everywhere, confetti coming from the stadium. It was something out of a book or dream,” Willson says.
The Seahawks tight end met fans at the Vollmer complex for autographs and a day of activities.
"It's cool to see all the kids out active and having fun."
More than 500 kids moved from station to station trying out new sports and activities on hand.
"It’s an opportunity to make sure kids can get engaged in sport and activity that creates a heathy lifestyle,” says organizer Terry Fink.
"He did come from LaSalle and he grew up here and he participated in all the minor sports so he does have a direct link here."
While many kids played, others waited patiently for the star.
"He inspires you to try your best and that you can go places in life if you try hard enough,” a member of the Wildcats fast-pitch team says.
And that’s what Willson hopes to do.
"If your goal is to get a better education, or x,y and z, you can do it,” he says.
On Sunday, Willson will be at the Tecumseh mail, signing autographs and taking pictures with fans from 2 to 4 p.m.
