A Sudbury man is charged after a brief chase through two counties.

According to Chatham-Kent OPP, officers were notified of a Volkswagen vehicle that failed to stop after being involved in a collision on Highway 401 near Victoria Road Tuesday.

Police say they located the suspected vehicle traveling westbound on the highway near the Tilbury service centre. Officers say the driver pulled onto the shoulder momentarily, before taking off again.

OPP says the chase continued into Essex County, where officers attempted to box the vehicle in, but the maneuver was ineffective. Police say the vehicle eventually stopped for officers on Highway 3 in Tecumseh.

Daniel Lavoie, 42, is charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, assaulting a peace officer, fail to stop at a scene of accident, and fail to stop for police.

Lavoie appeared in a Chatham court Thursday.

No injuries are reported.
