A 22-year-old from Ingersoll is facing three charges after a stolen vehicle was involved in a collision on Highway 401 Thursday afternoon in Lakeshore.

Essex County OPP say around 4 p.m. a witness saw an eastbound 2005 Pontiac Wave strike the right guard rail at the Rochester Road overpass, the driver then exited the vehicle and left the scene on foot.

Police were contacted and learned that the vehicle had been reported stolen from a residence in Ingersoll on August 6th.

Members of the OPP Emergency Response Team and the West Region Highway Enforcement Team arrived at the scene within 10 minutes and located a male walking through a bean field approximately 500 metres from the scene of the collision.

He was arrested and taken into custody and is charged with possession of stolen property, obstructing police and failure to remain.

He was released and is scheduled to appear in court again on August 28th.
