Windsor police have arrested a 28-year-old man and charged him with attempted murder after an elderly woman was stabbed multiple times on Ottawa Street.

Officers were dispatched to Ottawa Street near Hall Avenue for a stabbing incident around 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Investigation revealed that a 83-year-old woman was walking on the street when she was approached from behind by an unknown male. 

Police say the man stabbed the female multiple times in the facial area and fled the scene. 

The victim was transported to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.  

Through the investigation detectives were able to confirm the identity of the alleged suspect.  Many officers continued to search and canvass the area for the suspect and witnesses. 

At approximately 4:45 p.m, officers from the Emergency Service Unit observed the 28-year-old suspect walking in the area of Devonshire and Wyandotte Street East and placed him under arrest.

Detectives from the Major Crime Branch continue to investigate and are asking anyone who witnessed the assault or have information that haven't already spoken to police to call.  

Police are looking to speak to a witness who was walking their dog in the area at the time of the assault who chased after the suspect to call the Major Crime Branch. 

They are also asking anyone with residential surveillance cameras in the area of the incident on Ottawa Street to call.

Richard Pillar, 28, from Windsor is charged with attempt murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and two counts of breach of probation for being in possession of a weapon.
