Target Canada says the grand opening for Windsor’s new store won’t be until April, but the soft launch will take place this month.

Target Canada spokeswoman Lisa Gibson says the store at Devonshire Mall will open its doors in March.

“We will have all stores soft opened in March so we can fine tune as we head into our grand opening in early April,” says Target Canada spokeswoman Lisa Gibson.

The company says to stay tuned for a grand opening date announcement.

Chris Savard, Devonshire Mall general manager, told CTV Windsor in January the soft opening was targeted for around March 13, but he expected Target to confirm the date once it got closer.

Target will ring up its first Canadian sales when it opens three stores in Guelph, Fergus and Milton on Tuesday morning.

“We will continue to test systems and train team members at these stores to help us determine store readiness and the dates the other stores will open,” says Gibson.

Target Canada president Tony Fisher made the announcement Monday at the Guelph store.

The Minneapolis-based retailer is expected to open between 125 and 135 locations in Canada in spaces that were once owned by Zellers.
