The province’s Special Investigations Unit has been called in to examine injuries sustained during an OPP arrest over the weekend.
On Saturday, Essex County OPP responded to a residence on Second Street in Belle River, just after 8 p.m. During the arrest, OPP say a 22-year-old Lakeshore man became uncooperative and fled police on foot.
He was apprehended a short time later. The suspect complained of injuries and was transported to hospital. He was later released and charged.
As a result, SIU has been contacted to investigate the circumstances around the injuries and the arrest.
