The province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating an incident in Chatham that resulted in a man suffering severe burns.

Chatham-Kent police were called to a residence in the St. Clair Street and McNaughton Avenue West area at around 1:30 a.m. Saturday about a man in distress.

A short time after, the 43-year old man suffered serious burns to a significant portion of his body and was eventually airlifted to a Toronto trauma centre.

Four investigators and two forensic investigators have been assigned to investigate this incident.

The SIU is an arm’s length agency that investigates reports involving police where there has been death, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
