Seven people sent to hospital after crash in Kingsville
Essex County OPP say up to seven people have been taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle collision on County Road 18 in Kingsville.
It took place at about 6 a.m. Friday. The three-vehicle crash involved two passenger vehicles and a tractor trailer.
Police believe the tractor trailer with Quebec license plates was reversing into a commercial business when one vehicle hit the transport. OPP Constable Jim Root says a caravan travelling in the same direction also struck the 18-wheeler, becoming wedged beneath the trailer.
“The truck driver, it's my understanding, got out to assist the occupant of that vehicle and shortly thereafter, the second vehicle comes in and strikes the truck” says Root.
Police confirm the car had a lone passenger and the van was carrying six occupants. All seven were transported to hospital with injuries at the time ranging from minor to life-threatening.
Two of the crash victims were taken to hospital with critical injuries.
County Road 18 between County Road 34 and County Road 31 was closed for the investigation.
Police confirm it was dark at the time of the crash. CTV News spoke to a number of residents in the area. They say they did not hear anything, but they confirm the stretch of road doesn’t have any street lights.
