Royal Canadian Air Force is assisting the U.S. Coast Guard in a search on western Lake Erie for a possible person in the water.

U.S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit received a transmission on the marine radio frequency,  picked up by radio towers used to monitor Lake Erie.

The transmission, which appears to have been made by a child, states “My papa fell in the water.  I need help.”

Sector Detroit has launched a helicopter from Air Station Detroit, a response boat from Coast Guard Station Marblehead, Ohio, and requested long range air support from Canada’s Rescue Coordination Center in Trenton, Ontario.  RCC Trenton provided a C-130 fixed-wing-aircraft, which is aiding in covering the large search area.

Boaters on western Lake Erie are urged to keep an eye out for either an adult in the water or a child alone on a vessel.

No further transmissions were made and the Coast Guard was unable to hail the vessel.
