Tips from the public have helped Windsor police end an eight-week mystery.

Police were able to identify a man who was found dead near the WFCU Centre on March 19, thanks to information from the public.

The man was found deceased north of McHugh Street along the trail. The death wasn't suspicious and there were no signs of foul play, but he didn't have any identification.

Police asked for the public's assistance through the media and social media, which included sketches and photos.

Officers received a tip that he was believed to be a tenant in an apartment building in east Windsor. Detectives went to the apartment and found the man’s identification and forensic evidence that helped to confirm the male's identity.

Detectives also worked with the Coroner’s office and further confirmed the male's identity through dental comparisons.

The next of kin from the United States has been notified and police will not be releasing the male's name out of respect for the family.
