The widening of Highway 3 is back in the news, with word of yet another public input period.

The Ontario government is amending the environmental assessment on the project. Details are expected to be posted on Thursday.

Any major public infrastructure improvement requires an environmental assessment. The work would be done for the Highway 3 widening between Essex and Leamington.

The Wynne government is making changes to it and the government wants the public’s input.

Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca insists this is an important step and not another delay.

“I have heard, loud and clear, how important highway three is both as an economic link and as a crucial commuter corridor,” says Del Duca.

Del Duca falls short of saying they are ready to widen it to four lanes between Essex and Leamington. He was in Windsor-Essex today, to announce another public input session on the project.

“Tomorrow, the ministry will post a transportation environmental study report,” he says.
