Some Windsor parents, educators and politicians are protesting proposed child care regulation changes.

The group says changes planned by the Ontario government intend will threaten program quality considerably.

A protest was held at ABC Day Nursery of Windsor with NDP education critic Lisa Gretzky  on Thursday morning.

They say the changes can be made without any real public hearings or the agreement of MPPs in the Ontario Legislature.

"The Government of Ontario is proposing devastating changes to childcare regulations that will impact ratios of educators to children and watering down annual licensing requirements," said Kim Gilbert, child care district for CUPE Ontario's social service workers coordinating committee.

She says moving the youngest children into higher ratios could potentially slow their development and threaten the safety and quality of young children's experiences.

Parents, advocates, and early childhood educators are mobilizing to fight these major changes.
