'Project Red Ribbon' campaign kicks off this week in Windsor-Essex.

The annual event raises awareness about the risks of impaired driving during the holiday season and urges people to plan ahead for a sober ride home if they are going to be consuming alcohol, cannabis or other drugs.

MADD Windsor & Essex County along with Essex County OPP will officially launch the event Wednesday at 12 p.m. by asking residents to show their commitment to sober driving by displaying a red ribbon or red ribbon car decal on their vehicles, key chains, purses, briefcases and backpacks.

Red ribbons and car decals are available from MADD Windsor & Essex County at maddwin@yahoo.ca or 519-791-9623 and the MADD Canada website. Ribbons and decals also available at all OPP detachments and local Police services headquarters in Windsor-Essex.
