Windsor police say a pregnant woman was murdered and her body was discovered after a fire call to a house on Benjamin Avenue.

The 31-year-old woman was seven months pregnant at the time of death, say police. It is the city’s third homicide this year.

Windsor police Staff Sgt. Mark Denonville says the homicide is “one of the most disturbing scenes he's seen in 28 years of policing.”

Windsor firefighters found her body after being called to a blaze at 1566 Benjamin on Thursday at 2:45 a.m.

“We have a young woman,  31 years old, who’s been murdered and we want to get to the bottom of this as quick as possible of course," says Sgt. Matt D’Asti.

Damage of the fire is pegged at $60,000 to the first floor unit of the two-story duplex.

An autopsy was scheduled in London on Friday.

“We do have officers in London with the body to be there during the exam to see if there's any additional evidence that we may need," says D’Asti.

Police say they will not release the name of the woman.

Officers have been canvassing the Walkerville neighbourhood looking for information. Anyone with information is urged to contact major crimes at 519-255-6700 ext 4830 or Crime Stoppers.
