Windsor police say it's better to be safe than sorry after investigating a possible online threat made against a Walkerville high school over the weekend.
Turns out it was just a poem that was perceived to be worthy of investigation.
Police became aware of a poem that was posted on the social media app Whisper.
They say it implied a possible shooting at Walkerville Colligate.
Police say the poem was posted around 11 a.m. Sunday and although the school was not directly named, it did mention the "Tartan" which happens to be the school's mascot.
The author came forward to Windsor police headquarters with her parents later in the day to clear things up, but still there was a police presence at the high school Monday morning as a precaution.
"She was definitely remorseful, didn't intend on it being threatening in nature,” says Const. Andrew Drouillard. “But understands why everyone took it that way.
He says it should serve as a reminder to parents.
“It's just important for everybody to have this conversation with your kids on the impact that a threatening post like this could have on the community and the fear it can cause," says Drouillard.
