The family of a young LaSalle man say they are "shocked" and devastated."
LaSalle Police have confirmed the victim of Thursday's single vehicle crash as 19-year-old Nick Monforton.
The crash happened around 3:30 p.m. on Monty St. between Malden Rd. and Matchette Rd.
Police say an eastbound Dodge Ram pickup truck left the road and collided with a light pole on the north side.
Police say the driver was ejected from the truck and found dead at the scene, across from Jennifer Almeida's house.
"I looked over and saw him laying on my neighbours driveway," says Almeida. "That was really really awful."
Monforton was the only person in the truck.
"We lost a promising young lad," says LaSalle Police Constable Harbinder Gill. He believes if Monforton was wearing a seatbelt, he would be alive today.
Monforton's childhood friend Trisztan Horvath tells CTV Windsor he still can't believe the news, and admits he is struggling to cope with the loss.
"My head is confused, shocking, just memories flashing into my head," says Horvath.
LaSalle resident Gary Crowe says Monforton was "well liked" in the community.
The section of the road was closed for several hours Thursday night as part of the investigation.
LaSalle police are asking for witnesses to come forward. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-969-5210.
