Windsor police say schools were in a hold and secure status for about 40 minutes Wednesday afternoon as officers searched for a male who was ‘possibly armed’ near the Ambassador Bridge.

The suspect was arrested later Wednesday afternoon at the Husky station on County Road 46 without incident, say police.

Police say the male crossing the Ambassador Bridge fled the border. He reportedly left his vehicle and was on foot in the area near Huron Church Road and Girardot Street. He was also seen near the Greyhound bus depot downtown.

The schools were under the hold and secure mode as a precaution, but it was lifted around 3 p.m.

Greater Essex County District School Board spokesperson Scott Scantlebury says it impacted Marlborough Public School and Westview Freedom Academy.

Assumption Catholic High School was also temporarily under the hold and secure.

The suspect was described as a white man, about six-feet tall, 180 pounds, with brown hair and blue eyes.
