DETROIT -- A power outage affecting parts of Detroit closed several government buildings, including some courthouses, and left intersections without working traffic lights.

The outage happened about 10:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Affected parts of the city are served by the city's public lighting department. The Associated Press sent a message seeking information on the outage to a spokesman for Detroit's mayor.

Detroit-based DTE Energy Co., which often assists the city with power issues, says it's checking into the problem and would have information soon.

Parts of Wayne State University also are affected by the outage.
