One person was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation after a house fire in east Windsor.

Fire crews were called to the 9700 block of Menard Street around Noon on Monday.

Resident John Shorten tells CTV Windsor flames were “shooting 15 to 20 feet above the roof at one time.”

Family members confirm a 61-year-old woman has lived in the home for 25 years.

She was taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

Officials confirm the Office of the Ontario Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the blaze.

Windsor District Fire Chief Doug Diet says the frigid temperatures did not play a role in fighting the fire, but did pose challenges to firefighters.

No word on the amount of damage done to the home.
