An Amherstburg man found guilty in connection to a fatal snowmobile crash will not be going to jail.

A judge sentenced Trevor Skeates on Wednesday to 12 months probation, an 18 month driving ban and a $2,000 fine. In February the 23-year-old was found guilty of driving over the legal blood-alcohol limit.

Skeates was found not guilty of impaired driving causing death in the 2010 snowmobile crash that killed 19-year-old Corey Meloche.

The two were riding the snowmobile when they hit a ditch – pinning Meloche beneath the machine. She would later die of her injuries in a Detroit hospital.
