An unveiling ceremony today in Windsor’s Jackson Park pays tribute to the aircraft that played a significant role in Canada’s military history.
Three new mounted signs detailing the historic significance of the Spitfire, the Hurricane and the Lancaster are now on display in the park. The signs also outline the contributions of some of the Canadians who flew these planes in pivotal battles.
Mayor Drew Dilkens says he's thrilled these new signs will help educate those passing through Jackson Park. He says the signs will help explain to young people why it’s important to recognize veterans.
The OHL Windsor Spitfire team was named in honour of the all those who made, flew and died in the Spitfires used in the Second World War. As part of the unveiling, the Memorial Cup was on display at the event. In May, Windsor will host the 99th edition of the Memorial Cup.
