An additional NEXUS lane has been opened at the Ambassador Bridge according to the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

The addition brings the total number of NEXUS lanes at the Ambassador Bridge to three, and the total in Windsor to six.

The CBSA says the new lane will be used to process NEXUS members during high-volume periods and as a regular lane at other times.

Essex MP Jeff Watson said in a statement “This NEXUS lane reflects our government’s plan for creating jobs and economic prosperity by improving economic growth and trade on both sides of the border. I am confident that my constituents and businesses in Essex will be well served by this investment in our economy.”

The NEXUS program allows expedited border clearance for pre-approved, low-risk members travelling between Canada and the U.S. at numerous airports, land ports and marine locations.

Membership in the program has increased more than 50 per cent since December 2011 when the the Beyond the Border Action Plan was introduced.
