As police continue to investigate a 44-year-old cold case, the mother of the abducted six-year-old is pleading for information.

Ljubica Topic was taken from outside her Drouillard Road home on May 14, 1971.

On Thursday, Windsor police revealed that an incisor tooth belonging to an adult male was found near the girl's body.

Now Ljubica's mother, Paula Topic, hopes someone will do the right thing.

"Sweet little girl, that why I say, that little girl if she saw an ant, she don't step on it...I never dream in my worst day that could happen to the little girl."

Paula carries her daughter's memory with her every day, even though she last saw her around 8 p.m. on May 14, more than 40 years ago.

"The little girl come inside and on the table there was candy. [She said] 'Mom can I take a candy?' And I said sure honey, go ahead. 'Can I go outside and play more?' I say yes, not too long."

Police say that between 8:30 and 9 p.m. a man approached Ljubica and her eight-year-old brother.

Const. Scott Chapman says, "He offered Ljubica an amount of cash to go with him. He then provided a small amount of change to Michael to ride his bike in the other direction."

Paula continues, "About half-an-hour later, Mike come insdie with Mary and I say, 'Where is she?' [He said,] 'Oh the guy took her.' And I say, 'Where?!'"

Police and the community quickly began search for the girl, but about four hours later Paula got the devastating news.

"The police came and I say to him, 'When she going to come home?' And the chief of police say, 'She not going to come home, because she's dead.'"

Ljubica's body was found in the backyard of a home in the 1600 block of Hickory Avenue. She had been sexually assaulted and brutally beaten.

Paula says, "When I close my eyes, I hear her voice, 'Mama mama,' but nobody's there."

Now 79, Paula has endured more than four decades without answers and says she only wants one thing.

"Justice. Because what kind of person can do that to the little girl?"

She hopes sharing her story might help people remember, and encourage them to contact the police.

Chapman says, "There's a possibility that somebody out there might hold that piece of information and may not be aware of the significance."

Police are hoping that someone may have seen a man missing a front tooth, around the time Ljubica went missing.

"I would appreciate if anybody, from their heart, if they have kids, just think about their kids. If that happened to their kids, how they feel. Somebody have to know," Paula says.
