A 21-year-old man accused of arson was critically injured and Windsor police have arrested another man in connection to a fire at a Wyandotte Street pizzeria.

On Oct. 12, 2015 at approximately 4:15 a.m., officers on patrol came upon a working fire at The Original Pizza Brothers shop, around the same time a citizen called 911.

For several days, Windsor police arson investigators worked with Windsor fire officials and the Office of the Ontario  Fire Marshal on what was determined to be suspicious fire at 1129 Wyandotte Street East.

Damage at the plaza is estimated to be $600,000.00

Through investigation it has been discovered that two suspects went to the business.  A 21-year-old man entered the shop and police say his actions caused an explosion inside resulting in him being critically injured.

Police say the second suspect, a 39-year-old man, removed the injured male from the scene and brought him to an undisclosed location in Windsor and then in Essex.

Eventually an ambulance was called for the man and he was transported to Windsor Regional Hospital.   He was then air lifted to a hospital in Hamilton that has a burn unit.

He remains in critical condition and is in a medically induced coma.  Police say he has severe burns to over 60 per cent of his body.

On Thursday at 8:45 a.m., Windsor police placed the 39-year-old suspect under arrest without incident, in the area of Howard Avenue and Cabana Road.

He is charged with arson damage to property, criminal negligence in failing to provide assistance in relation to the life or safety of another person and accessory after the fact.

The suspect was released on a promise to appear and has a court date early in December.

Police say a charge of arson causing property damage will be processed against the injured male when his medical condition improves.
