Records are expected to be broken at the 5th annual FireFest Chatham-Kent.
Vintage emergency vehicles will line the downtown of the classic car capitol of Canada.
The free event kicks off Friday, Sept. 16 in Thamesville at the "world's largest fire truck corn maze.” A few engines will be on hand before heading back to Chatham for Saturday festivities.
Chair Brent DeNure expects to have about 100 fire vehicles involved in this year’s festival, which is expected to attract between 15,000 and 20,000 people.
He also anticipates a fun crowd who enjoy showcasing their trucks with their “flashing lights and loud sounds.”
Organizers gathered at the Civic Centre on Wednesday for a sneak peak, and to showcase the underlying message of what FireFest is all about.
Whitney Burk of Chatham Kent Fire and Emergency Services says working alarms save lives, and they want to portray that message in a fun way.
FireFest will also include interactive games, competitions, a car extraction demonstration and a fire fighter survival course.
Burk adds it’s not just a fun and free event, but it’s also educational.
