An investigator with the Office of the Fire Marshal is testifying today at the attempted murder trial of  Windsor man accused of starting a fire that caused burns to a mother and her 7-year-old daughter.

Kenneth Kormendy, 44, is facing a total of eight charges, three for attempted murder and five others related to arson, including disregard for human life.

The girl’s mother, Sheri Rueda, took the stand on the first day of the trial on Monday. Rueda testified she was doused in gasoline and then forced to flee her home as it went up in flames in October 2015.

The investigator, Skye Lorimer, told the court she seized multiple items at the scene including a charred package of cigarettes and a piece of "cloth" that didn't have gas on it. Lorimer says a part of the door frame came back from testing showing it did have gasoline on it.
