Many people in Windsor-Essex are putting winter tires on their vehicles.

It's to the point where businesses can't keep up with the demand.

“That's all it is basically when we pick up the phone it's for winter tires," says Joe Paonessa, manager at  Beverly Tire.

Across Windsor-Essex, tire businesses and auto shops are swamped with calls and booked solid with appointments for drivers wanting to install snow tires.

“It just hasn't stopped that's our biggest seller right now, is snow tires," says Paonessa.

Paonessa is seeing more and more drivers putting snow tires on their vehicles.

“It's the confidence of driving if you get stuck in a bad storm, but at least you know you have control of the snow when you're driving, you're not going to slide into anybody or cause a big accident," he says.

Windsor police Const. Andrew Drouillard says over a 24-hour period from Sunday into Monday, Windsor police responded to 30 collisions after the first snowfall of the season.
