City officials are celebrating the start of construction for Windsor’s newest fire hall.

Mayor Drew Dilkens and Fire Chief Bruce Montone attended the groundbreaking for the new $6-million fire hall and emergency operations centre.

The energy efficient, state-of-the-art facility will provide enhanced fire services to residents in south Windsor and the surrounding area. At the same time, 3,500 of the structure’s 13,000 square feet will be dedicated to a new emergency operations centre.

Montone says the new facility is a welcome addition to Windsor Fire and Rescue Services.

“The new Station 6 will better serve south Windsor while the Emergency Operations Centre will improve our emergency management for the entire city,” says Montone.

Loaring Construction will begin work on the new building immediately.

Construction is expected to be complete by August of 2017.
