A mischief call helped Windsor police arrest a 22-year-old man who allegedly robbed a Mac’s Convenience store with a makeshift spear.

Officers were called to the parking lot of a business in the 1200 block of Lauzon Road on Friday Jan. 16 at 1:45 a.m. for a report of two men breaking into vehicles.

Police say a citizen saw a suspect from a distance breaking into a vehicle in the parking lot. The witness called out to the suspect, who fled the area and met up with a second male.

Officers went to the area, found the suspects and arrested them.

During a search, officers located a three-foot long tree branch with a seven-inch knife taped to the top, similar to a spear, concealed by one of the suspects.

Windsor police detectives say that the male matched the description of the suspect and weapon in the Mac’s robbery reported on Jan. 13.

Officers say they also found items that were believed to have been stolen from the Mac’s robbery in one of the suspects back pack.

Christopher Urquhart, 22, from Windsor is charged with robbery with a weapon, uttering threats, committing an indictable offence with a face mask, possessing a weapon for committing an offence and mischief.

A 21-year-old male from Windsor is charged with carrying a concealed weapon.
