Windsor police have charged a man with first degree murder after a fatal downtown stabbing early Saturday morning.

Dwayne Nicholas Pierce, 22, was formally charged in a Windsor court on Tuesday. Police say he was arrested Monday night, without incident, outside of his home in downtown Windsor.

Another man was arrested and released, but not charged.

A third man, Abdul Rahman Bousaleh, 23, has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a dangerous weapon.

Police believe between eight to 12 people were involved in the fight between two groups of men around 2 a.m. Saturday near Pelissier Street and University Avenue.

Gautham (Kevin) Kugathasan, 19, was stabbed to death, say police. Five other people had non-life threatening injuries.

“We’re continuing to locate and interview witnesses, continuing to interview suspects and expect to continue to lay charges,” says Windsor Staff Sgt. Todd LaMarre.

Ali Mahmoud Ahmed, 30, was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on Monday. He has been released from custody and will appear in a Windsor court.

Four weapons were recovered from the scene by police and have been seized. LaMarre says he has no idea how many more weapons were used in the melee.

LaMarre says investigators are having trouble getting details from both groups of men.

“We’re still having issues with that, many combatants on both sides not being cooperative,” says LaMarre.

Police are still going through surveillance video to piece together the details.
