Cleanup continues across Windsor and Essex County after Friday's powerful winds and lightning caused power outages, tumbling trees and forced the activation of Amherstburg's tornado siren.

The thunderstorm that hit the shores of erie wine festival at fort malden happened within minuets, forcing the evacuation of hundreds at the Shores of Erie Winefest.

"One part of the tent had come loose, the whole thing was shaking and you knew it was going to come down," says witness Kim Scherer

"It was panic for a few minutes for sure," says Scherer.

Emergency crews were called in for reports of downed wires and collapsed tents.

Two people were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The town activated its tornado siren.

Volunteers spent Saturday morning cleaning up the aftermath.

Windsor forestry crews were also busy with many trees and branches down on Dougall, Bridge and Randolph Avenue.

City crews recommend you park your car away from any large trees if a storm is approaching.

"You don't know what can happen during a storm situation, the whole tree can uproot, you could major damage to your car. And you don't want to have to put in a claim if you don't have to," says Mario Cervi with the city.

A fallen tree in the town of Tecumseh caused headaches for many after a tree fell on a gas line forcing the evacuation of residents on Oldcastle Road.

Union Gas says the leak was isolated and residents were able to return to their homes at 9:30 Friday evening.
