Local residents were also in Boston during the bombings Monday afternoon.

Ashley Kellam is a former cross country and track and field runner at the University of Windsor.

She was back at her hotel room during the blasts.

She is in a state of shock.

"We had walked by the area so many times and ran past it. It was really difficult to watch knowing we were just there. We're feeling lucky that we made it out before it happened and that we're all safe," she said.

Jay Hudson, radio personality with 89X was eating at a restaurant about 400 metres from the finish line when the news broke.

He says no one really knew how to react, because many were from out of town and didn't know of a safe place to be.
