The countdown is on until Windsor is once again on the international stage as part of the FINA Diving World Series.

At a news conference Wednesday, at Windsor’s aquatic centre, local swimmers and Olympic divers joined FINA officials for the announcement. Athletes also got the opportunity to break in the facilities diving tower.

However a local diver is hopeful the Diving World Series can make a splash in attracting more athletes to the sport.

"I think once the opportunity becomes open, lots of people will begin to start diving and I think a team will form for sure!" says Jaina Gaudette.

The 15-year-old is an aspiring Olympic diver, who currently has to travel to Michigan for training.

"I go five days a week to the states. It’s an hour and a half away. I drive right after school and I get home around 10:30 p.m."

Gaudette admits there aren't many local divers, but feels that having a world class fully equipped pool in the heart of Windsor may soon change that.

The Windsor leg of the series kicks off May 30.
