A 27-year-old Leamington man has been sentenced to a nine-month jail sentence for leaving the scene of a collision involving a bicyclist.

Matthew Quiring pled guilty for the 2013 crash on Road 4, which left a Mexican migrant worker a quadriplegic.

The 48-year-old victim later died, but Quiring's lawyer said not from injuries in crash.

Pat Ducharme told the court his client heads sales for his family's business Nature Fresh and was responsible for $50 million in sales for the major employer.

Ducharme said the sentence was a joint submission and as well as the jail time Quiring must provide a DNA sample and is banned from driving for two years.

Two other charges, impaired driving and exceeding blood alcohol were dropped.
