LaSalle police have identified a 38-year-old man who died after a hit and run on Huron Street.
He has been named as Kevin Emisch of Windsor.
Police, fire and paramedics responded to a report of a cyclist struck in the 800 block of Huron Street on Thursday around 9:45 p.m.
Police say the vehicle and driver that struck the cyclist failed to remain at the scene or render any assistance.
The cyclist was transported to hospital by EMS, where he died due to his injuries.
The vehicle is being described as mid to full size SUV. It was last seen going east on Huron Street and then turning north on Matchette Road.
On Friday, neighbours were in disbelief.
"How can you hit something like that and keep going?" says neighbour Patrick Bryan.
Bryan lives close to where the accident occurred.
He says drivers typically go the speed limit on his street.
Until now, he hasn't had to worry about his grand-kids playing outside.
"Well I'll tell you one thing, make sure grand-kids more aware. Usually people here are pretty good they keep eyes open," he says.
Blain MacDougall rides his bike daily.
The accident has rattled him but not enough to keep him off the road.
He says you just have to be smart.
"I follow all the rules, got my hand signals down properly," says MacDougall.
In the last 15 years, the town of Lasalle has added 37 km of new bike paths throughout the municipality and over 50 km of sidewalks.
But the mayor says trails wont prevent all accidents.
"Hopefully if nothing else, this serves as a reminder that we have to be careful out there. Its a tragic event," says mayor Ken Antaya.
