LaSalle’s Deputy Fire Chief, Ed Thiessen says a bad situation could have been far worse if it wasn’t for the quick action by a police officer.

Thiessen says the officer who was on patrol in the 200 block of Gignac Crescent just after midnight Friday, when he smelled smoke coming from an attached residential garage.

The officer knocked on the house door and woke up the family of five – including 6-month-old twins and a teenager.

They were able to escape.

Thiessen estimates the damage at $100,000 and says the cause was electrical.
