Larry Horwitz will not be seeking the Conservative Party nomination as the Windsor-West candidate in the upcoming federal election.

Horwitz, current president of the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association, submitted his papers to run just last week.

However, he has not been a party member for the required six month period, a provision recently introduced by the party.

The riding association was requesting a waiver from the federal party, but Horwitz decided it would be best not to run.

According to Horwitz, “The reason I put forward my nomination papers is because I believe Windsor can grow, become great, and we can cut our unemployment by half. I still believe that. I still will fight for Windsor in whatever capacity I’m given.”

In the 2008 federal election Horwitz ran in Windsor-West as a Liberal candidate finishing third, with incumbent and current NDP MP Brian Masse retaining the seat.
