Cyclists in south Windsor will have to wait to find out what type of bike lanes will be coming to Cabana Road, along the so-called "Windsor Loop."

Windsor city council deferred a decision at Monday night's meeting. Options previously discussed were painted lines along the side of the road or segregated multi-use trails.

Administration is now looking at the option of a segregated bike lane, separated from traffic by physical barriers.

The proposal covers a 5.5 kilometre stretch of Cabana Road at an estimated cost of $4.8 million dollars. The idea will get more public consultation before it returns to council.

"We thought it was a reasonable solution to take care of both needs and that's why we came forward with it, we thought it was worth it. Council has decided they want to go back with further consultation for that, so we'll do that," says city engineer Mario Sonego.

City council will officially reach “lame duck” status on Sept. 12, but administration says councillors will be able to vote on the proposal because the funding has already been allocated.
