Disappointment for fans of Jim Belushi, as the comedian has cancelled his planned Chatham show.

The Chatham-Kent Capital Theatre announced Monday, that Belushi and the Chicago Board of Comedy is cancelling their planned performance on Jan. 23.

“A glorious opportunity has presented itself in a beautiful movie script that shoots in Miami Beach this January and February,” said Belushi in a statement. “It’s a lead role and a great ensemble of actors, writers, and a terrific director. It’s a must-do, a left field opportunity that if I don’t seize, I feel I will regret for the rest of my life.”

Theatre management is now working to secure a new date in the spring. Ticketholders are asked to keep their tickets, as they will be transferred automatically to the new date.

Belushi’s full statement can be read below:

“Livin’ on the edge! Actor, writer, singer, bandleader, Blues Brother, director, author: I’ve got to have so many jobs just to make a living. It’s the gypsy life and scheduling is the tragedy of my existence. I am terribly disappointed to not come to Canada the last week of January to do a tour that we have been working on and looking forward to all year. A glorious opportunity has presented itself in a beautiful movie script that shoots in Miami Beach this January and February. It’s a lead role and a great ensemble of actors, writers, and a terrific director. It’s a must-do, a left field opportunity that if I don’t seize, I feel I will regret for the rest of my life.”

“ We want to be in Canada, we want to play in Canada. Canadians have the best sense of humor and would love our spontaneous improvisational comedy show. We are desperately seeking a way to reschedule these dates and would be grateful for your patience and understanding until we work it out. My three favorite funny men in the world are John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, and Martin Short, and they all come from the Canadian comic sensibility. Hopefully we will be able to reschedule in a new time frame and we can all have a blast. And laugh our asses off, together! Until then, my deepest apologies and regrets. I promise I will make it up to you.”
