An independent review is in the works, which will take a look at panels along the Rt. Hon. Herb Gray Parkway.

According to Damian Joy, interim executive director for the parkway project, an independent review is being conducted by Golder Associates on the retained soil system (RSS) walls. Hundreds of the panels are already installed in 21 locations along the 11-kilometre parkway.

"The government's handling of this has put into question, called into question, the structural integrity of the retaining walls," says NDP Infrastructure Critic and Windsor-Tecumseh MPP Percy Hatfield.

Hatfield says the government must answer further safety concerns about the instillation of parkway panels.

“The public’s trust in this government’s ability to properly manage the Herb Gray Parkway has been shaken,” he says.

However, Joy says there is no safety concern at this time.

“Right now, we’re very satisfied with the feedback we’re getting, and there’s no cause for concern at all,” Joy says.

The review is expected to be complete in three weeks.
