Windsor police have confirmed the identity of a woman found dead in a home on Benjamin Ave. as 31-year-old Cassandra Kaake.

Kaake, who was seven months pregnant, was found dead following a fire at the home early Thursday.

Police say the fire at the duplex where she was living was intentionally set.

Officials say Kaake's death was a result of blood loss due to severe trauma to her body.

Police say it's unclear if the suspect and victim knew each other, but they believe the person or persons involved may have been injured during the incident.

They say the fact Kaake was seven months pregnant is another tragedy.

"We feel the weight of that and we know that the community feels the weight of that as well," says Sgt. Matthew D'Asti.

He says those responsible will face homicide-related charges, but not double homicide, even though Kaake was seven months pregnant.

"We are bound by the rules of the criminal code," he says.

He says police are working around the clock to try to solve the case. "We are all thinking of the victim an her family and wanting to bring justice."

Kaake's Facebook page says she was born in LaSalle and attended Sandwich secondary school.

Police say she was working at a local parts supply company.

Neighbours on Benjamin Avenue are nervous.

"You start to get paranoid and look around the street and say, 'Who's that? Who's that?'" says Nina Riccardo.

"It's definitely sad and I wouldn't wish this upon anybody."

No suspect description has been released and police are urging anyone with information to come forward.
