The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society is seeking information after a cat was found with a severe wound on her tail.
The one-year-old dilute tortoiseshell cat was found on Saturday night in Amherstburg.
Shelter officials say when she was found, she had a serious wound on her tail, which was caused by a plastic zip tie.
Based on the physical findings, it is believed that the zip tie was deliberately placed onto and tightened around her tail. The wound and resulting tissue damage were so severe that she will require amputation of her tail.
The cat, now named Marcie, is receiving antibiotics and pain control to allow time to improve her body condition before to surgery.
Humane society veterinary staff expect to perform the amputation next week and are optimistic that Marcie will make a full recovery.
Shelter officials believe it happened before January 14. A cat matching Marcie’s description with an injured tail has been seen in the area she was found since mid-January.
