The "sterile" concrete drain along Grand Marais in south Windsor could be in line for a facelift.
Council voted to move forward with a $26-million overhaul of the drain.
Ward 1 councillor Fred Francis says the project will ultimately help connect neighbourhoods.
"It's good to dust it off the shelf and bring it forward to the next budget,” says Francis. “I'm under no illusions, it's going to be transformative, but it will take decades. But we can start today."
At Monday's Council meeting, Landmark engineer Daniel Krutsch gave an update of the vision, which began nearly a decade ago.
The plans call for replacing the upper wall of the drain with naturalized growth.
It also suggests pedestrian green-spaces over the drain and bike paths.
Council will discuss the project during upcoming budget deliberations.
