A four-year-old girl has died after getting run over by a farm tractor in Leamington.
Essex County OPP say it happened on Saturday at a farm accident on Road 7 in Leamington. CTV News has learned it was Prism Farms.
The police investigation is complete. There are no charges and there will be no further action from police.
The victim, Lyla Pearce, was a junior kindergarten student at East Mersea Public School in Wheatley.
Andrea Maceyovski has lived across the street from East Mersea school for over 30 years. She even taught at the school for quite some time. Maceyovski says the Pearce family has a deep history in the community.
"You're not just parents, you're friends,” says Maceyovski. “Because for years you teach their kids and you just get to know them."
Elementary students at East Mersea received counselling on Monday. The social workers briefed staff in the morning and they broke the news to the students, says Greater Essex County District School board spokesperson Scott Scantlebury.
“If there were questions, the teachers were given as much information and resources as possible to answer those questions and talk to students about it," says Scantlebury.
Flags at the school were at half-mast.
The Ministry of Labour has been contacted about the incident and investigators are trying to determine if it falls under their jurisdiction, says spokesperson Matt Blajer. He says it would only qualify if it involved paid workers on the farm.
